It was recently announced that a hacker group had compromised all of Sony’s systems and would sell them for ransom. Independently of this incident, a new statement from Sony confirmed the attack in May. It was stated that the information of nearly 7 thousand employees working in the game department was stolen.
Sony: 6800 of our staff in the gaming division were hacked
Sony has confirmed allegations of a hacking attempt on May 28th. It issued a warning that 6800 people may have been compromised, including current and former employees in the games division.
The attack was caused by a vulnerability in MOVEit Transfer, the file transfer platform used by Sony Interactive Entertainment. The hack, carried out by the ransomware group Cl0p, was discovered on June 2.
Sony brought in external cybersecurity experts to help with the investigation and confirmed that other systems were not affected. Accordingly, PlayStation servers or PS Store user information are safe.
This news comes just a week after another hacker group claimed to have compromised Sony’s systems. However, Sony assured that there was no customer or partner data on the affected server.
Sony said it has contacted the victims of the hack and provided them with instructions on how to proceed. Users also have nothing to do.
